Areca provides a binary driver and CLI tool for their 1300/1320 series non-raid SAS HBAS at http://www.areca.com.tw/support/s_freebsd/nonraid_freebsd.htm . An ebuild for these would be appreciated.

How about having ...-20120323.8.2.ebuild or -20120323.9.0.ebuild and extract os version from the PV like:

OSV=${PV#*.}
MY_PV=${OSV/./}

SRC_URI="http://www.areca.us/support/s_freebsd/non_driver/arcsas-freebsd${MY_PV}.zip"
