Description Jason Giangrande 2004-02-21 16:09:55 UTC
When I shutdown my system running a 2.6.2 or higher kernel with acpi enabled, the system runs through the shutdown scripts, but never powers itself down. The screen goes blank, the power button becomes unusable (even holding it down does not work), and ctrl-atl-del does not work. The system can be restarted with the reset button. If I pass acpi=off to the kernel the system can be properly powered off.

This problem has occured with the 2.6.2 and 2.6.3 gentoo-dev-sources, and the 2.6.3 development-sources. The system powers off fine with a 2.4.x kernel as well as with the 2.6.1 development-sources.

This is an smp system using the Tyan Tiger MP (S2460) motherboard. My guess is this problem is related to either this specific motherboard or chipset.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install a 2.6 kernel > 2.6.2
2. Power down the system
3.

Actual Results:
At point the system should power off the screen goes blank, but the system does
not power down.

Expected Results:
Power down the system.

Since we don't maintain the upstream vanilla sources, this is an upstream bug. You might want to comment on http://bugme.osdl.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2109 which outlines the same problem. Thanks!
