after installation the script info says ...
<snip>
* # cd /usr/share/games/xshipwars/etc/ 
* # cp xshipwarsrc ~/.shipwars/xshipwarsrc 
* # cp universes ~/.shipwars/universes 
</snap>

please insert a line for creating the dir ~/.shipwars if it not already exist :)

because of this error 
<snip>
cp: cannot create regular file `/home/rockoo/.shipwars/xshipwarsrc': No such file or directory
</snap>

and also add a line that u have to update the 'xshipwarsrc'-file ...

Fixed in CVS.  Thanks for the bug report.
