Description Maksim 'max_posedon' Melnikau 2012-06-24 22:49:40 UTC
udev-185 (systemd-185) comes with libudev.so.1, but google-chrome linked with libudev.so.0

a bit crazy hack fixes this problem
1. cd /usr/bin
2. ln -s libudev.so.1 libudev.so.0

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge systemd-185 (udev-185)
2. start google-chrome
Actual Results:
# /opt/google/chrome/google-chrome
/opt/google/chrome/google-chrome: error while loading shared libraries: libudev.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Expected Results:
google chrome starts

# emerge --info

Don't do anything with this bug either; we are still trying to work out
details of how to make this version of systemd coexist with udev.

Ok. Keep in mind that google-chrome is a pre-compiled binary package. If libudev's SONAME changes, I cannot rebuild google-chrome against the new library.

Possible resolutions:

1. Google makes some change to remove libudev.so.0 from DT_NEEDED.
2. libudev is slotted so that libudev.so.0 and libudev.so.1 may be installed concurrently.

I hexedit'ed /opt/google/chrome/chrome changing libudev.so.0 to libudev.so.1. Chrome starts and works, though i don't know if something is broken really.
Consider doing so in ebuild if >=udev-186 is installed.

This would mean slotting udev and systemd, so I doubt this is going to happen.

This may be your best shot until you can get an answer from google about the first option.

You would have to use has_version to check which version of udev is installed and run this sed in pkg_postinst or something similar.

I have added a symlink to the chrome directory which should take care of this.

/opt/google/chrome/libudev.so.0 -> /usr/lib64/libudev.so

With the symlink in-place, portage still complains about having existing preserved-libs.

!!! existing preserved libs:
>>> package: sys-fs/udev-186
 *  - /usr/lib/libudev.so.0
 *  - /usr/lib/libudev.so.0.13.1
 *      used by /opt/google/chrome/chrome (www-client/google-chrome-20.0.1132.47_p144678-r1)
Use emerge @preserved-rebuild to rebuild packages using these libraries

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root       19 Jul  7 17:09 libudev.so.0 -> /usr/lib/libudev.so

I have www-client/google-chrome-20.0.1132.47_p144678-r1 installed

Just remove the files manually.
