the ibm implementation seems to be better for ppc than blackdown: (1) blackdown 1.4.x is -ppc (2) ibm makes the ppc so one would think they'd know it best :)
(3) ibm-* does not come with a browser plugin, blackdown does (4) ibm-* requires you to register and download the binaries manually from their webpage, users might find this very annoying, especially when a huge emerge stops in the middle of the night when you are asleep telling you to go manually fetch the binary (5) I already tried to convince Darkspecter today and he told me why we couldn't have ibm as default ;)
Repoman needs to be fixed so that you can have multiple virtuals. Then you could have blackdown as default and ibm as the alternative for any package that requires >=jdk-1.4. I tried placing multiple entries on one line in virtuals but repoman refused to accept anything after the first package.
well then what about the alternative of fixing blackdown-jdk-1.4 ? there seems to be ppc sources for it oh, and the 'problem' isnt with repoman, it's with portage ... review portage(5) and the virtuals file format
