Version 0.8 of ethtool is out for a while. There's a very important change since 0.7 : the TSO can be enabled/disabled. And without disabling TSO (ethtool -K eth0 tso off), a lot of e1000 NICs are unreliable with a 2.6 kernel. No need to change the ebuild, just bump the version, it works like a charm.
Maybe you mean 1.8 version... I would like to ask the developers to add the new version(1.8) which came out on July 19, 2003. Here are the changes: (from NEWS file) Version 1.8 - July 19, 2003 * Feature: Support amd8111e register dumps * Feature: Support TSO enable/disable * Feature: Support 10 gigabit ethernet * Feature: Support writing EEPROM data * Feature: Output e100 MDI/MDI-x status in register dump * Feature: Clean up RealTek (RTL) chip output, support new chips. * Feature: More supported e1000 devices. * Bug fix: Properly set ecmd.advertising * Bug fix: Fix leaks, handle some error conditions better.
1.8's in Portage now, courtesy of agriffis.
