Ahhh. So it's userpriv that's the issue. I don't know enough about how portage does things during the build phase, but the short of it is this: - The src_prepare part of the ebuild runs a perl script called otrs.SetPermissions.pl which sets both permissions and ownership of files ready for installation. - Because ownership is changed (chown is called), the script will fail when run as a non-root user (i.e. FEATURES=userpriv). From reading the Gentoo Development Guide (http://devmanual.gentoo.org/index.html), it seems that the src_install phase might be the best place for otrs.SetPermissions.pl to be run since it operates with root privileges, even though the script is more of a preparation then install operation. I've tested moving the invocation of otrs.SetPermissions.pl from the src_prepare phase to the end of the src_install phase and it works without an error. Any objections to an ebuild patch that uses the install phase to set the permissions?
