Description Robert Kroes 2004-02-19 23:54:57 UTC
When I try to rebuild kdelibs-3.2.0 it consistently fails with "The bug is not reproduceable, so it is likely a hardware or OS problem" - how ironic :-). The interesting thing is that I have already successfully merged it.

*  kde-base/kdelibs
      Latest version available: 3.2.0
      Latest version installed: 3.2.0
      Size of downloaded files: 12,161 kB
      Homepage:    http//www.kde.org/
      Description: KDE libraries needed by all kde programs
      License:     GPL-2 LGPL-2

The only reason I'm trying to rebuild it is because kdebase-3.2.0 persistently fails to complete the configure phase, saying kdelibs-3.2.0 needs to be installed first (see http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42218).

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge kdelibs
2.
3.

most likely a cflags issue - just try lower ones and re-emerge.
Comment 2 Robert Kroes 2004-02-24 13:02:11 UTC
Thanks, but could you elaborate a little for me? What did you mean by the lower ones? What file should I edit? I'm no stranger to C and makefiles but I'm not sure what you mean here...
Comment 3 Dominik Stadler (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-03-08 09:57:42 UTC
In the file /etc/make.conf you have a global setting for the CFLAGS that are used for compiling, you have

CFLAGS="-O3 -march=pentium3 -funroll-loops -fprefetch-loop-arrays -pipe"

some of these might not work correctly, the default is something like

CFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium3 -pipe"

you should try with these to see if then the error goes away.
Comment 4 Robert Kroes 2004-03-09 21:09:18 UTC
I have just resolved this issue (finally). The message "The bug is not reproduceable, so it is likely a hardware or OS problem" appears to be right on the money. My 256MB SDRAM had a 1-bit fault (bit forced on) at offset 31.5MB. I replaced the faulty memory and recompiled kdelibs (and the rest of KDE-3.2) without a hitch.

My appologies guys...
