Setting the wallpaper and the style for kdm has no effect.  I'm stuck with a
gradient background and dotNet style, regardless of what settings I select.

Selecting Scaled for the wallpaper does not properly set
/usr/kde/3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc's WallpaperMode properly (it's set to Tiled).
 I've unmerged and remerged libpng. I've also remerged all of kde and qt.  The
image itself is jpg, not png. jpegs display fine elsewhere.  Ideas?

No, my gentoo HD died, so I had to reinstall and the new install doesn't have
the problem. It was probably an upgrade issue, though I'll never be sure.

not sure if it is connected but my kdm doesn't even display the image, it shows a black screen, after I enter it shows part of the background where the login screen was
