Description Espen 2004-02-18 20:02:00 UTC
Tested this with 2 identical WDC 120GB 7200rpm 8MB cache hard drives on a VIA vt8233 IDE UDMA100 controller (MSI KT266 Pro2-U motherboard). Both times reiserfsck reports the same bad block on each drives. Reiserfsprogs is newer then 3.6.4-r1.

Solution: Go back to reiserfsprogs 3.6.4-r1.

you didnt provide `emerge info` nor did you really say what version is 'broken'

please re-open if 3.6.11 or 3.6.17 fail to work for you

I am having a similar problem trying to transition my system from kernel 2.4.25-r2 to 2.6.7-r5. The 2.6 kernel will fail to boot reporting bad blocks when checking the root partition. The 2.4 kernel boots and is stable. The system has a WDC 40gb drive and a VIA vt82c686b IDE UDMA100 chipset, so it is somewhat similar to the original poster's.
The original version of reiserfsprogs installed 3.6.11. I have tried downgrading to 3.6.8 and upgrading to 3.6.17 without success.
