Description Philip Webb 2012-06-12 17:28:55 UTC
As the mDNSResponder pkg will soon disappear & I continue to have a regular need for 2 KDE-3 apps, I unmerged mDNSResponder & tried to remerge kdelibs-3.5.10-r10
(testing), which I have installed, using USE="avahi": this resulted in an error.
I also tried -r6 (stable), which failed with a different error. The -r10 error seems to refer to Cups, which I don't need for KDE 3 , so I could try recompiling with USE="-cups", but there's still a bug, & the -r6 bug remains too.

Reproducible: Didn't try

KDE 3 is not maintained by us anymore.

That said, if you install net-dns/avahi with useflag mdnsresponder-compat set, you should get an interface compatible to mDNSresponder.

Thanks ! I installed Avahi as recommended
& both the KDE 3 apps I use re-appeared after a reboot.

Confirm this bug. I'm not using mDNSresponder now. I select avahi, but I don't like Poettering applications.
