Since a recent update of this eclass zip is not supported as snapshot archive anymore. No reason given for removal of this feature.

$ unzip --strip-components 1
error:  -fn or any combination of -c, -l, -p, -t, -u and -v options invalid

So the reason is that the current code does not allow it?

I don't get that logic.

Should I attach a patch?

I am not sure if that is even desired, that's why I am asking.

No, it's not. I'll be happy to fix *when* someone actually needs .zip support here. No reason to maintain something noone will need.
