Given the error and MAKEOPTS="-j7", are you sure you didn't run out of memory ?

Um, also, you may want to finally make the jump and switch from sys-devel/gcc-4.4.6-r1 to the currently stable 4.5.3-r2, which you have already installed - use gcc-config to switch.

i tried to upload the entire build log but it was too big. even compressed it was larger than 2MB. I will try switching my gcc profile and see if that helps.

ok, I I tried again after updating my gcc and it did it this time. Seems odd though it failed before with internal compiler error. Thank you for you help anyway.
