Right now, gentoo-dev@g.o redirects mails to gentoo-dev@lists.gentoo.org. As a direct consequence of this, mails sent to the wrong address hit the list without anyone noticing their mistake. Sadly, when such mails are replied with the use of 'Reply all' both @g.o & @l.g.o get into To/CC and accidentally two replies hit the mailing list instead of one. In my opinion, it would be much better if mails sent to gentoo-dev@g.o resulted in a usual 'invalid e-mail address' response, possibly with a helpful notice what the correct address is.
Applies to all MLs, so making the summary more general. Open for discussion by infra members, will require a sr member approval. In this case, it was originally done for unknown historical purposes.
It was done because at some point in the distant past (before woodpecker came about) lists were at the same mailserver as other traffic. I'm not in favor of removing the current functionality, though the solution proposed is a reasonable one. Let the other infra members chime in.
imho we should do what Michal proposes. I am willing to do the job, plus to inform the community about the change (in mailing lists and blog post)

Let the other infra members chime in. +1 Throwing a 5xx with a hint to use lists.g.o instead might be good.
