Could you please honour the 'mozilla' USE flag in gnome-base/gnome/ ebuilds? Something along the lines of mozilla? ( !hppa? ( >=net-www/epiphany-1.0.7 ) ) instead of !hppa? ( >=net-www/epiphany-1.0.7 ) I ask this because I use Firebird, and don't see the point in getting ole mozilla to get yet another browser I wouldnt use. Or maybe you could set a local USE flag...
No, gnome meta is a meant to reflect the gnome release as it is done by the GNOME release team upstream. Epiphany just is part of the desktop. If you don't like it use gnome-light and just emerge the packs you need or inject epiphany. In the end this should get solved by mozilla back-end split-up, where that pack would be needed for both firebird & epiphany. I see firebird already uses it's in tree backend code.
