As discussed on gentoo-dev[1], please drop the use of custom game prefixes and games group limitations and install games alike regular packages. [1]:http://archives.gentoo.org/gentoo-dev/msg_92d3fb1a5b02be363fa4142bfd15c251.xml
No thanks. We're happy with the way it is right now. Pointless churn is pointless.
The /usr/games prefix is a non-issue as all of the $GAMES_ paths have always been user-configurable.
Just a note: user "games" is independent of group "games" as-is, and the only use of user "games" I can see is /usr/games being owned by games:root (whereas on older Gentoo installs /usr/games is owned by root:games similarly to all other related directories). Another note: /usr/games is FHS-compliant, see http://www.pathname.com/fhs/pub/fhs-2.3.html. Of possible interest: bug #345209. (In reply to comment #1) > Pointless churn is pointless. It's not pointless once you don't have to deal with user/group games-related bugs anymore.
