Description Philip Webb 2012-05-19 09:33:31 UTC
Gimp-2.6.12 dumps unwanted files,
eg /usr/share/locale/zh_TW/LC_MESSAGES/gimp20.mo ,
which are removed by 'localepurge'.

Reproducible: Always

Another in the series ...

Please provide patches. Honestly, it has very low priority to me otherwise.
Comment 2 Philip Webb 2012-05-22 03:31:44 UTC
I'm not sure whether your response is directed to me, a user,
or to the bug wranglers. As a user, I don't patch ebuilds.

Around the beginning of 2012 there was a proposal to remove 'localepurge',
which I protested on the dev list & was told by Mike Frysinger
to submit bugs whenever any further case of a misbehaving package appeared.
Subsequently, I submitted bugs 401525 & 401563 , which were dealt with.

This is not a trivial matter : a package can dump a large amount
of totally unnecessary stuff onto a user's hard drive
& fixing it to respect LINGUAS sb fairly simple for a qualified dev.

I'm always grateful for the unpaid labor of Gentoo devs,
but your response here is not appropriate.

Hello Philip,

some users do submit patches and (without knowing if you were on of those) I just went dare asking. If you are not going to submit a patch that's perfectly fine. I don't really see how my reply is inappropriate. You should see that stack of more important stuff in my inbox :-) If there is something you want me to understand and learn here please elaborate.

"Honestly, it has very low priority to me otherwise".

That's what irritated me briefly (smile). I hope my prod didn't hurt !
You seem to have fixed the ebuild very quickly & easily
after I made the point that this is a non-trivial problem,
but its solution sb fairly simple.

Thanks again to you & all the other Gentoo devs.
Comment 6 Sebastian Pipping gentoo-dev 2012-05-28 21:39:38 UTC
Actually, it's not as trivial as it could be and the compile time of Gimp makes the whole thing take much longer than necessary. I'm at 2.6.x at the moment.
