Sorry I completely lost track of this. Are you trying to play output on S/PDIF?

As I remember I've also had the same issue. Removing of ~/.pulse directory helped me.

I tried that but it didn't help. Now tried again on pulseaudio 2.1 because 1.1 does not compile against latest udev and still the same problem.

Did an another test by logging out of KDE, making sure it really got killed and logged back in. Now after switching device it's at least playing something. Let's see if it's automatically working for the next couple of boots.

Please retry on a more updated system with 4.99.4 (it works for me with it, 4.0 and 3.x versions)
