the installed zzz-gimp.desktop file breaks gnome menu. Changing the line Exec=gimp-2.8 %U with Exec=gimp-2.8 makes the entry show up correctly in the menu Reproducible: Always
Hello! Which version of GNOME is this about? According to [1] the use of %U seems legal at that place. Would you mind filing a bug at GNOME or Gimp upstream and linking to that report here? [1] http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/latest/ar01s06.html
I am using gnome-2 (the one stable in portage) and gnome-menu is 2.30.5 . Do you know if this version is still supported upstream? Otherwise filing a bug report would be useless. Thanks for the attention anyway
Honestly, I'm not sure what to do. Technically, it would be no problem to a add use flag "gnome2" to gimp that strips "%U" off or something but it feels quite dirty to me. I'm re-assigning this bug to the Gentoo GNOME team and hope for their input.
%U in theory has been supported by gnome since at least gnome-2.16 days, probably even earlier...
Even gimp-2.6 passes "%U" and it's shown perfectly on my gnome, the problem must be on other side. Reporter, what are the permissions of desktop file just installed by gimp before you edit it?
$ ls -l /usr/share/applications/zzz-gimp.desktop -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1077 10 mag 11.40 /usr/share/applications/zzz-gimp.desktop
I've just removed my own modified version of the .desktop file in .local/share/applications and the menu entry is still showing up (and survived a pair of reboots). So the problem automatically solved by itself, don't ask me why...
Cool :-) Closing...
