When I try to update my system, I got an error from zlib, which says:

>>> Emerging (1 of 1) sys-libs/zlib-1.2.7

There are some other applications, that have the same problem, i.e. vlc, djvu...

Here is the emerge --info

Comment 1 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2012-05-06 23:49:49 UTC
do you have automake installed ?
Comment 2 Falmer 2012-05-07 08:03:40 UTC
Yes automake is installed.
As you can see in the emerge --info:

sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.69
sys-devel/automake: 1.10.3, 1.11.5
Comment 3 Samuli Suominen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-05-07 09:00:09 UTC
And you have file /usr/share/aclocal-1.11/init.m4?
Can you `emerge -C autoconf automake` and let them reinstall for a test?
Comment 4 Falmer 2012-05-07 21:45:24 UTC
Yes, the file /usr/share/aclocal-1.11/init.m4 is there.

I have recompiled both packages, but without deinstalling.
Are you sure, that 'emerge -C autoconf automake' will the system no render unuseable, as the packages itself look for the autotools?

The problem is not resolved with this.
Comment 5 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2012-05-09 17:14:22 UTC
you can remove any autotool package and easily re-install them. they aren't part of @system anymore.
Comment 6 Falmer 2012-05-12 07:44:29 UTC
Okay, I have unmerged autoconf and automake, have reinstalled it, but the error lives on:

The problem seems to be the USE-flag minizip.
I merged zlib without this and it worked. Now I need to look after vlc, as this needs minizip.
Comment 7 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2012-05-13 23:02:13 UTC
go into the build dir and run:
  aclocal --verbose
and post the log as an attachment

there should be a line like:
aclocal-1.12: found macro AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE in /usr/share/aclocal-1.12/init.m4: 25
Comment 8 Falmer 2012-05-14 16:45:18 UTC
I tried it in the contrib/minizip and in zlib-1.27, but the command brings no output.

here is the buildlog:

Comment 9 Falmer 2012-05-22 19:05:09 UTC
I've updated to gcc 4.7 and installed automake 1.12.
Now the errormessage reads:

 * ERROR: sys-libs/zlib-1.2.7 failed (unpack phase):
 * Cannot find the latest automake! Tried 1.11.1:1.11

Is there any chance to get this solved?
