I noticed that there is a very helpful section in the desktop guide on installing and configuring the nvidia linux drivers. It would be helpful to include a similar guide on setting up the ati proprietary drivers as well. While this could get out of hand with including setup documentation for other video hardware, if it is limited to only the 2 most currently popular choices in video hardware, then most bases will be covered.

Thanks. I have applied the patch verbatim but I'm not resolving the bug just yet. I was holding it for the upcoming third part of the Gentoo Handbook which handles desktop configuration. However, it looks like it takes a lot longer than expected to have a working part finished.
The third part has been cancelled so I'm marking this one as FIXED.
