Comment 2 Kacper Kowalik (Xarthisius) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-05-06 14:42:30 UTC
I don't exactly understand what do you expect us to do. This package doesn't work with python 3. Install python2.x if you want to use it.
Also I'm not sure if having only python3 installed on your system is sane/safe thing to do. There's lots of packages that doesn't support python3 yet.
Safest way is to have USE_PYTHON="2.7 3.2" in your /etc/make.conf. This will make portage install packages for both versions of python if possible.
Comment 3 David J Cozatt 2012-05-16 22:59:06 UTC
In reply to comment #2 I agree. I'm not sure it is sane or safe. Yet this was a fresh gentoo hardened install. Python 2 is not included. To be frank I merely wanted to pull in the rsbac overlay that someone is working on and check their code before I even consider installing or running it. This is nothing more than a testing box.

So when I wanted to know on IRC what was recommended to check python code I was informed that 'pylint has support for python3 (experimental)' Not that I suspect it is any eaiser to use than 'lint'

I was informed in #gentoo-python that 'Gentoo and Arch Linux have moved ahead to python3'

When I did an update on my ~amd64 system yesterday python3 was set the default.
