It would be nice for some of us modem users if the huge ebuild list on the left side of the page didn't have to be reloaded everytime you click a link on the page. I beleive this can be done with frames. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.goto http://packages.gentoo.org 2.click on "search for packages by catagory" 3.left side of the page must be reloaded "wasting alot of uneeded bandwidth" Expected Results: the left side shoud be in a seporate frame so the rest of the page can be updated without loading the huge list
this would also be at the expense of compatibility for all/older browsers, which I don't think is in the overall best interests of the Gentoo community. Disabling images on that page would probably decrease your download times more than anything. I believe most modern browers give you the ability to turn off image downloading.
I see your concern,, yet I liked the old package database better than one that takes a good 45 seconds to load a page everytime a link is pressed.. Maybe there is another solution?? How about only keeping 2 or 3 days of recent ebuilds in the list?? Craig
Even without images, each page seems to be about 150KB - 200KB of data. Craig
