Description Jakob Sigurdsson 2004-02-12 10:09:59 UTC
When the initrd system is trying to mount my new root in STEP 4a I get this message:

STEP 4A: MOUNTING ROOT
mount: mounting /dev/hda4 on /newroot failed: Invalid argument
Could not mount specified ROOT, try again
Root block device unspecified or not detected
Please specify root device to boot, or "shell" for shell
:

And it doesn't matter if I try to specify the /dev/hda4 filesys again,
I keep getting this message.

RESOLVED.

I ran "emerge system" and then I ran genkernel with --menuconfig, changed the ReiserFS from a Module build to Built-in (*) and it worked.

People still having trouble should read /usr/share/doc/genkernel/README
