evilvte 0.5.1 has been released on 27/03. The most improvement improvement is the complete GTK3 support, which makes the upgrade to Gnome 3 not so complicated (cutting off the old vte dependencies).

It's in the tree. Note that version 0.5.0 should already handle x11-libsgtk+:3 properly, and is currently stable.
