I do intend to move to gnome3 any time soon and wanted to stick to a slot, but gnome 3 ebuild got thrown into the 2.0 slot:

And your point is? GNOME2 and GNOME3 are not parallel installable. The SLOT number is meaningless. And renaming SLOT numbers is *plain unnecessary work*.
