If I call meld without parameters, meld starts. I can select two files with the file selector box inside in meld. If I click OK after selection, I get the same error.

Comment 2 Juergen Rose 2012-04-24 16:40:34 UTC
Restarting dbus has not helped. Rebooting removed the issue.
Comment 3 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2012-04-29 18:50:04 UTC
Also try with 1.6.0
Comment 4 Juergen Rose 2012-05-03 08:12:46 UTC
Now I have a similar effect with meld-1.6.0. Meld crashes with DBUS error, if I try to compare two files, like:

root@wildcat:/root(24)# meld config__3.3.0-gentoo__FB-OK_X11-OK config__3.2.11-gentoo_initrd__FB-OK_X11-OK

Restarting dbus (/etc/init.d/dbus restart) does not help. If I start meld without parameters, and select the files with the file selector box I get additional errors:

I really don't have a /root/.local directory. If I create the /root/.local and /root/.local/share directories manually the related warning disappear, but I still get the D-BUS error.
Comment 5 Juergen Rose 2012-05-03 08:38:14 UTC
Again rebooting removes the problem.
Comment 6 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2012-05-03 09:05:18 UTC
How do you login as root?
Comment 7 Juergen Rose 2012-05-03 10:07:00 UTC
I login as rose via ssh and do "su -". At the last attempt, where meld failed with D-BUS error, gnome as desktop was running. Now after the reboot there is not any desktop running.
Comment 8 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2012-05-03 20:21:28 UTC
Does it occur when you run it as normal user? When you run it as root (with su - without involving ssh)?
Comment 9 Juergen Rose 2012-05-07 17:48:20 UTC
It seems, that I am still in the state after the last reboot (Comment 5). I.e., meld works for root and for user rose.
Comment 10 Juergen Rose 2012-11-01 18:07:37 UTC
I hit the error again (now with meld-1.6.1):

For user rose everything is fine. User root is more or less 'directly' logged in. I.e., at gdm user rose is logged in. User rose starts a root xterm with:
'xterm -ls -sb -sl 1000 -bg black -fg green -e su -' and then user root did the above meld call. This issue happens very seldom. Normally root does not have any problems to call meld in this way.
Comment 11 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2012-11-07 18:39:21 UTC
Did you try "dbus-launch meld"?
