There are many applications that can use stardict-format dictionaries. sdcv, goldendict, qstardict. I did emerge -1 for dictionary package and it can be used by that software without original stardict installed. Therefor, stardict dependency is unnecessary. Reproducible: Always
I meant emerge -O instead of emerge -1

CCing maintainers of that alternatives in Gentoo, for now: app-text/sdcv app-text/goldendict app-text/stardict Do you know more alternatives
I use app-text/qstardict. But it is not in the main portage tree. I use ebuild from overlay "rion". I don't know any other alternatives.

We discussed this at the last Qt team meeting, and agreed that a virtual feels a bit redundant. A "|| ( ... )" dependency in stardict.eclass should be enough. Are we missing something?
