It appears that dev-texlive/texlive-latexrecommended-2011 installs sources even though USE=-source was set.

dev-texlive/texlive-latexrecommended-2011 was built with the following:
USE="(consolekit) (multilib) (policykit) -doc -source"

font sources are needed to generate them for different precisions.
