There have been quite a few problems recorded with the current ppc 1.2 iso, many of which I very much think are kernel related (it's an old very patched kernel on that iso afaik). More info's found here: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=2522 http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=5363 http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=5901 I was unable to bootstrap on my wallstreet with the iso as well on first 3 attempts (4th went thru but I subsequently died on bigger compiles taking down filesystem). I think its a problem for any pre G3 750 machines. It seems that these machines hit the wall when they run out of resources and kernel panic (taking down filesystem irrecoverably with them). I had this happen under very heavy load with earlier kernels as well on fast machines. VM patches in the kernel maybe? Many times these users were only able to install with my unnoficial stage3 and from there things have been good for them...the forums tell the tale. The current iso is very out of date (especially the kernel) We also desperately need a vanilla kernel.org kernel and maybe a benh kernel w/o patches. Many users wont even run gentoo-ppc kernels atm (still) and are using benh tree.
testing newer kernel/iso, should be released to general public in a few days.
oops, I meant, I have new kernel.org kernels currently in testing, to be submitted for iso if they pass QA tests, in a few days =)
fixed, new kernel on the 1.2-r1 PPC ISO
