Steps to reproduce: 1. Create (mkntfs) an NTFS filesystem, and mount with usermapping=..., mapping being, e.g.: ::S-1-5-21-3141592653-589793238-462643383-10000 (see ntfs-3g(8)). 2. Create a symlink on the filesystem as regular user (not root) 3. "getfattr -h symlink" as regular user -> "Permission denied" The above means that, for instance, "rsync -X" fails when executed by regular user. I know it's most likely an upstream issue, but it will be great if someone can confirm it first.
I reported the issue upstream: http://tuxera.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=29524
Should be fixed in 2013.1.13.
