* Messages for package app-office/libreoffice-bin-3.4.5.2-r1:

 * PT PaX marking -m
 *      /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice.bin
>>> Auto-cleaning packages...

>>> No outdated packages were found on your system.

 * GNU info directory index is up-to-date.

!!! existing preserved libs:
>>> package: net-misc/curl-7.25.0
 *  - /usr/lib/libcurl.so.4
 *  - /usr/lib/libcurl.so.4.2.0
 *      used by /usr/lib/libreoffice/basis3.4/program/libucpftp1.so (app-office/libreoffice-bin-3.4.5.2-r1)
Use emerge @preserved-rebuild to rebuild packages using these libraries

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge net-misc/curl-7.25.0
2. Notice the error message showing preserved-libs (which includes libreoffice-bin)
3. emerge @preserved-rebuild
Actual Results:
libreoffice-bin links to the older curl library

Expected Results:
Either have the binary package updated to refer to the newer library or have a block in place for the newer one

Have you tried deleting (or renaming) the old files and then rebuilding libreoffice-bin?
Comment 3 Tomáš Chvátal (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-03-25 15:10:33 UTC
It is perfectly stated that it is built against stable libraries.

Since you use testing you will have to use non-binary version, or give us enough cpu power so we can spin new binary for each testing library update.

This "bug" will be fixed when 7.25.0 hits stable and trigger the rebuild.
This bug is something between wontfix and cantfix. Also the dep adjusting is not currently preffered. The issue is solved in stable portage, as the libreoffice do not show on revdep-rebuild list.
Comment 4 Dennis Schridde 2012-03-25 16:11:45 UTC
Why is that patch to RDEPEND also WONTFIX? app-office/libreoffice-bin-3.4.5.2-r1 currently does not document its dependency on net-misc/curl-7.24.0 at all...
Comment 5 Tomáš Chvátal (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-03-25 16:34:24 UTC
There is patch for this specific issue.

It does not resolve the issue when next yet other library in testing breaks.

Also it does not depend on the curl in question, it will be again rebuild to support latest when it gets to stable.

As I said multiple times the binary package works on testing by accident and the only goal is to provide it for stable users.

If you don't mind compiling all the packages from testing tree you should be able to compile the libreoffice itself. Specially now when there are not much magical build issues left around.

That reads to me like "It depends on the curl in question and later it will be rebuilt to depend on a different version."

The version in question is *in* testing. IMO, it's a little strange to say that a thing placed in testing only works in testing by accident.

1) "If you don't mind compiling all the packages from the stable tree you should be able to compile the libreoffice itself"

2) Being in the testing branch doesn't mean that my computer has the memory capacity to compile libreoffice
Comment 7 Dennis Schridde 2012-03-25 17:45:38 UTC
In addition to comment #6 I would like to add that the dependency on net-misc/curl is missing *entirely*, which is what I criticised.
