RedHat removed support for SCSI emulation in qemu-kvm 1.0, but upstream QEMU still provides SCSI emulation support. RedHat is working on virtio-scsi as a replacement for both SCSI emulation support and virtio-block. In the mean time, we should do something to provide SCSI emulation to bridge the gap.
I had a chat with blackpenguin in #kvm on freenode and it seems that app-emulation/qemu-kvm-1.0-r3 is rendered obsolete by app-emulation/qemu-1.0.1, which has SCSI support. I am closing this as obsolete.

This is not how any other distro operates. The LSI SCSI support is bad and broken and shouldn't be used because it will corrupt your data.
