grub-2.00* installs files in /etc/grub.d/ that automatically generate submenus in grub's boot menu. I do not see a mechaism to disable this other than rewriting the relevant sections of the files. However, this wmeans that these changes have to be reapplied (or interactively merged in) on every upgrade of grub. Therefore, I request a USE flag to disable automatic submenu generation (or some other mechanism) without the need to reapply the changes everytime portage wishes to upgrade grub. Thank you. Reproducible: Always
Have you asked upstream to add a configuration variable for this? Jumping straight to a use-flag and a local patch seems premature.

When I'm unsure as to whom I should make the request, I goto Gentoo first. If it would be more appropriate to directly ask GNU, then that's what I'll do. Thanks.
No problem. Here are the relevant mailing lists. http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/grub-mailinglist.html
