To be fair, 09 didn't come out until the last six months. I've worked in my free time on an ebuild that might actually install, but am currently facing sandbox problems. The issue is that our standard make process doesn't apply here - Gtk-perl has a top level make file which then goes down and performs individual perl Makefile.pl && make, part of which includes an attempt to "help" by uninstalling any previous version of Gtk-perl. Short answer is I haven't hacked it enough to get around this "feature," so unless someone else does it's on hold until I can get a viable ebuild working.

Mistake on my part - was using the cpan url for the test ebuild, forgot to carry it over into the final. emerge sync and you should be all set (committed a while ago).
