Lynx version 2.4.8 rel.1 (17 July 2001) libwww-FM 2.14 SSL-MM 1.4.1 OpenSSL 0.9.7c I started up lynx with no command line parameters. I then attempted to access the help page. It first tried to connect and then gave me a 404 error. Then it navigated to a site with adult oriented materials without actually rendering the HTML. So I dumped the contents to a file. I then tried to connect to the address that was shown each time I pressed the h key. This again produced a 404 error and took me to the same place (unrendered html et all). So I dumped this into another file. However a diff revealed that they were different files (probably dynamically generated) but the general structure of these two files was the same when compared in two xterms side by side. So I checked the lynx.cfg file HELPFILE URL and then tried to use lynx to navigate to that page. It again produced similar content. Interestingly even when navigated to in firebird, the HTML was displayed unrendered. The root domain however did render and produced adult material. For your convenience I have listed the URLs below: (WARNING: ADULT CONTENT - USE AT YOUR OWN DESCRETION) a)URL it attempts to connect to before 404 error: http://www.gonetwide.com/trill-homelynx/lynx_help/lynx_help_main.html b)URL listed in the /etc/lynx/lynx.cfg file next to HELPFILE: http://www.trill-home.com/lynx/lynx_help/lynx_help_main.html c)URL of the root domain http://www.gonetwide.com/ I would like to note that I have not altered any lynx configuration files since I emerged it in the chrooted environment with the x86 basic live cd for gentoo 1.4. I have only used env-update and etc-update. This problem has also been reproduced by one other person on the forums. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Type in

Press the ´h´ key. 3. Look at the content in lynx. Actual Results: It produced unrendered html from an adult website. Expected Results: It should have navigated to the lynx help homepage. Although this bug does not pose any severe functional obstructions, it is potentially offensive and inappropriate for many individuals in the gentoo user base.
over here it says: HELPFILE:file://localhost/usr/share/doc/lynx-2.8.4.1d-r1/lynx_help/lynx_help/lynx_help_main.html so either you have a bad /etc/resolv.conf file, or something else mysterious is going on here.
I do not think it is my resolv.conf bash-2.05b$ cat /etc/resolv.conf nameserver 10.0.0.2 10.0.0.2 is my gateway/router. eth0 is brought up DHCP. Also I am not the only one with this problem. One other person has confirmed it on the forums: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=132762&highlight= Lynx was emerged on Jan 22, 2004 at 22:46:44 (according to its build time)
Fixed in latest stable lynx (2.8.5). The domainname probably expired and was taken over by an adultsite to gain traffic from lynxusers
2.8.5 is in cvs
