I am a bit new to Linux, more so to Gentoo so bear with me, also first bug report. I have Gkrellm 2.1.24 installed and recently upgraded to 2.6.1-rc1 kernel and noticed something about Gkrellm. After the system is running for a few hours, the temp and fan sensors stop updating. They seem to freeze at a reasonable level, not at extremes. The rest is working fine, drives, CPU and memory. I did some poking around and noticed that the values in the /sys files are not changing. That is the way it seems anyway. I tried to re-emerge the program to see if that would help, no change. /sys is mounted at boot as normal and no other error that I see. I have also tried to restart X by logging out, clicking menu and selecting restart X. No change. I can reboot and it will work again for a while then stop again. I sort of think this is a kernel issue. I changed back to my old kernel, 2.6.0-test11, and it works fine. I have ran for a good while now with no problems. I did not even have to re-emerge Gkrellm, it just worked. If you need more info, let me know. I may have to reboot with the newer kernel and wait till it stops, which takes a few hours. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.boot kernel 2.6.1-rc1 2.start Gkrellm 3.wait a few hours Actual Results: The sensors freeze with normal values. Expected Results: update the info I guess. Just let me know if I can provide any additional info. Here goes my uptime. :-( Thread in Gentoo forum. http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=132399& If it is one of you guys, let me know. We can "chat" there too. Oh, I'm "dalek" there. I hope I entered this right. :?
try 2.6.2 since as you say, it looks like a kernel bug

I just had it to freeze in kernel version 2.6.0-test11 as well. I ran that specific compiled kernel with no trouble before. I also am having trouble getting Konqueror to launch and when I do, KDEInit will not launch Kwrite when clicking on a text file. I did do a emerge -u world the other day. I wonder if this is related to the update and if these problems are related to each other. ?? I'm going to start a thread in forums and see what others think. I'll post a link if anything comes up. I'll update when something new comes up. dalek
Well here is a update. I'm up to kernel 2.6.8-gentoo-r10 and still have the same problem. I put the sensors as a module this time and when they stop updating I just rmmod them then modprobe them back. They start working again when I do that. They continue to work for quite a while then stop again. I rmmod and modprobe them again and it works again. I don't have to reboot anymore but this is still annoying as heck. I notice it shows this as resolved, I wish someone would till my rig that. It is still broke even after updating the kernel a couple of times. Any more ideas??? Dale Oh, I updated the thread on the forums as well. Link above.
