Description Richard Gray 2012-02-24 02:47:55 UTC
It seems that bind won't build unless caps and dlz flags are set.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
# emerge -a net-dns/bind

Actual Results:
!!! Problem resolving dependencies for net-dns/bind from @selected
... done!

!!! The ebuild selected to satisfy "net-dns/bind" has unmet requirements.
- net-dns/bind-9.8.1_p1::gentoo USE="berkdb (multilib) threads -caps -dlz -doc -geoip -gost -gssapi -idn -ipv6 -ldap -mysql -odbc -pkcs11 -postgres -rpz -sdb-ldap (-selinux) -ssl -urandom -xml"

The following REQUIRED_USE flag constraints are unsatisfied:
    berkdb? ( dlz ) threads? ( caps )

The above constraints are a subset of the following complete expression:
    postgres? ( dlz ) berkdb? ( dlz ) mysql? ( dlz !threads ) odbc? ( dlz ) ldap? ( dlz ) sdb-ldap? ( dlz ) gost? ( ssl ) threads? ( caps )

(dependency required by "@selected" [set])
(dependency required by "@world" [argument])

Expected Results:
Should be able to create bind without being forced to set dlz and caps USE flags.

I think those restrictions are there for good reasons, so you will probably need to adjust your USE flags.
Comment 2 Richard Gray 2012-02-24 13:53:07 UTC
Why then am I compelled to have dynamic zone loading (dlz) described as a third party extension? It seems pointless to have a USE flag if one is compelled to have it set - get rid of the use flag altogether would surely be appropriate?

I really do think this should be looked at a bit harder before dismissing it out of hand.
Comment 3 Christian Ruppert (idl0r) gentoo-dev 2012-02-24 15:49:47 UTC
bind needs dlz for berkdb and caps for threads support. If you need those features then you have to enable the required use-deps as well.
