Description Chris Reffett (RETIRED) gentoo-dev Security 2012-02-15 01:27:08 UTC
The test phase of dev-util/dbus-test-runner-0.0.4 fails with an abort and the unusual error of "The ebuild phase 'test' has exited unexpectedly..." The error happens consistently, and I have no reason to suspect my bash binary or hardware is suffering from errors only when this package is testing.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge -1 =dev-util/dbus-test-runner-0.0.4
Actual Results:
Test phase fails with:
** (dbus-test-runner:2455): WARNING **: Unable to start bustling data: Failed to execute child process "bustle-dbus-monitor" (No such file or directory)
** (dbus-test-runner:2455): DEBUG: Started task 'task-0' PID: 2462

make[1]: *** [check-am] Interrupt
make: *** [check-recursive] Interrupt

/usr/portage/dev-util/dbus-test-runner/dbus-test-runner-0.0.4.ebuild: dyn_test aborted; exiting.

Expected Results:
Test phase should finish and emerge should complete successfully.

Does it work when you set FEATURES="-sandbox" ?
Comment 3 Chris Reffett (RETIRED) gentoo-dev Security 2012-02-15 15:28:58 UTC
It does not work, and ends with the same errors.
Comment 4 Ian Delaney (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-02-21 07:26:31 UTC
Failed to execute child process "bustle-dbus-monitor" (No such file or directory)

This is the code where it seemingly goes wrong.

gchar ** bustle_monitor= 0(gchar *, g_list_length(bustle_watches) + 3);
	bustle_monitor[0] = "bustle-dbus-monitor";
	bustle_monitor[1] = "--session";
------------------------------------------------------------------
	if (error != NULL) {
		g_warning("Unable to start bustling data: %s", error->message);

This shows the assignment of bustle-dbus-monitor as the first member of the array of gchars bustle_monitor. The code in between is rather 'deep', making a loop to assign the next 2 members of the gchar array bustle_monitor. It seemingly goes awry in the function g_spawn_async_with_pipes().

I confirm the finding as it is found in the initial build log. It's too 'dep' for my level, so it's sensible to send this upstream which I shall attempt
Comment 5 Ian Delaney (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-02-21 10:34:51 UTC
acquired dbus-test-runner-0.0.5 which is added to the kde overlay.
It also fails the test phase in similar style.
Comment 6 Chris Reffett (RETIRED) gentoo-dev Security 2012-03-19 15:04:35 UTC
The problem, at least for me, is that bustle-dbus-monitor does not exist in bustle-0.4.0, which I am running. It seems to have been integrated into the main bustle command or something like that. Tested dbus-test-runner-0.0.5, it compiles fine with bustle-0.2.3. I haven't looked into bustle enough to figure out a replacement, but simply replacing references to bustle-dbus-monitor with bustle does not solve the problem.
Comment 7 Chris Reffett (RETIRED) gentoo-dev Security 2012-03-19 15:22:18 UTC
According to the QA reverse-dependency checker, nothing depends on bustle except dbus-test-runner, so I would suggest for now restricting dbus-test-runner to depend on =bustle-0.2.3 (and since nothing else depends on bustle, this should not conflict with other packages) until we can figure out and make a patch for it to work with 0.4.0.

Fixed in dbus-test-rnuner-12.10.1
