OpenGL works anyway: "OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4"
Apparently just eselect is confused.
Comment 2 Small_Penguin 2012-02-12 22:23:22 UTC
I confirm: eselect-mesa-0.10.0 stops working with mesa-8.0.
Comment 3 Mathieu Z 2012-02-15 02:22:22 UTC
Just remove the related entry from /usr/share/mesa/eselect-mesa.conf

I am working on a patch to remove it during pkg_postinst() depending on the value of VIDEO_CARDS

Are you sure that will work? The problem here is IMHO that mesa 8.0 removed the r600 classic driver. So it depends on the mesa version, not VIDEO_CARDS.
Comment 5 Matthew Turnbull 2012-02-15 23:41:12 UTC
It looks like eselect-mesa is choking on the 'missing' classicdriver entries. I added them and everything worked.

How did you fix it? I thought this was a problem in the eselect module, not in mesa itself?
Comment 8 Chí-Thanh Christopher Nguyễn gentoo-dev 2012-03-03 11:05:50 UTC
As per comment 5, the driver filenames were dropped prematurely from eselect-mesa.conf but a solution to make eselect-mesa handle this more gracefully would have been possible too.
