In about friday during update to x11-misc/slim-1.3.2-r7 I've read the portage message: WARN: postinst Please note that the slim session start script now supports consolekit directly, via xinitrc.d scripts. Please remove any existing work-arounds to avoid multiple calls to ck-launch-session. and find, that consolekit workaround in slim.conf becomes outdated. Updating /etc/slim.conf made these buttons operable. But later (using slim-1.3.2-r7 without consolekit workaround) I've find, that I couldn't mount USB flash drive (not authorized error, with slim-1.3.2-r6 it worked fine). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Set up mount permissions /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/10-local-udisks.pkla [Mount Permissions for users] Identity=unix-group:users Action=org.freedesktop.udisks.filesystem-mount;org.freedesktop.udisks.drive-eject ResultAny=yes ResultInactive=no ResultActive=no 2. But not for mount. It don't works. Or, if polkit rules also need to be changed, pkg_postinst() should document it together with removing custom ck-launch-sessions from slim.conf.
polkit rules do not meed to be changed -- i remember running into tjis issue before, when i was writing thw update to -r6, iirc it was a use flag on gvfs or udisks or something -- not slim specific. i will review my notes and get back to you
OK so I didn't have much luck finding the fix in my notes, so it's time to debug. Firstly, please post the output of `ck-list-sessions` after you have logged in, with -r7 installed and with -r6 installed. This will allow us to confirm that your bdly/wrongly initialized consolekit session is the actual cause of the issue.

Thank-you! This confirms what I was suspecting: The session created with -r7 is actually correct. Note that for 'Session 11' you have 'is_local=TRUE' and 'active=TRUE'. Whereas for -r6 and Session 4, you have 'is_local=FALSE' and 'active=FALSE'. The situation you find yourself with in -r6 allows you to access your mounts, but it does so by circumventing all security -- that is, it's not a valid setup but it just happens to do what you want. The issue you are having with not being able to access your mounts lies elsewhere in your setup, probably with your WM or DE. x11-misc/slim is working properly. As such, I'm closing this bug.
