I tried to compile octave with the useflag fltk. fltk-1.3.0 was merged by default. Compiling octave failed with many errors. 3.2.x series also fails to build with GCC 4.6 and I don't have any development boxes left with older GCC versions so I can't actually test reapplying the dropped patch @sci-mathematics: all yours
