Reported through www@gentoo.org by Craig Lawson: The third paragraph indicates that the devices "/dev/lp0" or "/dev/usb/lp0" may be used in the foomatic-configure command. This will result in an error. Instead, these devices should be specified as "file:/dev/lp0" or "file:/dev/usb/lp0" as shown in Code Listing 4.4. Alternatively, "usb:" may be used instead of "file:". "Code Listing 4.2: General Usage of foomatic" make some assumptions about the reader which I suggest are not consistent in style with the rest of the guide. In particular, I found the use of $printer_model and $printer_ID confusing. I suggest removing it completely and using in it's place Code Listing 4.4. In Code Listing 4.3, "queue-name" has not been described. I suggest telling the user that a queue corresponds to a particular printer configuration. If for some reason they want different drivers or have multiple printers, they need different queues to distinguish them. If they have only one, suggest they use the queue name "default". In Code Listing 4.4, I suggest adding quotes around "Stylus Color 980" on the first line. Otherwise, the command produces an overwhelming amount of output.
I've updated the codelisting to be a bit more elaborate on the foomatic-configure usage. Removing the statements alltogether would be a total mismatch as they are pretty important. All the other changes have been applied as well.
