Out of curiosity I tried starting an installation on amd64 with the minimal system requirements of 64MB RAM, 1.5GB disk space and 256MB swap space. A recent minimal CD didn't even boot with 64MB, only once I cranked it up to 128MB, I could successfully boot the CD. So maybe it is time to revisit the hardware requirements and make sure they still reflect the reality. (On a related note, paragraph 2.b. seems to state that the minimal CD is just 119MB large, whereas the most recent one 'weighs' 151 MB, that needs updating as well)
BTW: that amount of RAM probably won't allow compiling gcc and/or glibc. I've been running some VMs with just 256MB and had problems there in the past.
True, I had to crank up my VMs to at least 256Mbyte for a full functional deployment scenario. I am able to build gcc/glibc with 256Mbyte though.
For amd64 and x86, I would recommend that the memory requirements are up'ed to 256mbyte and file system storage to 2.5 gbyte. I'll ask releng if they agree (and what the minimal requirements ought to be for other architectures).

Committed. Thanks for reporting!
