I decided to give the Qt's opengl engine a go. Results were bad. Lots of stuff simply is not drawn. I'll attach two examples: smplayer screenshot and a small .mkv showing invisible menus in Dolphin. Please note that Qt's opengl graphicssystem is considered experimental and totally unsupported. It's definitely not usable as the default graphicssystem.
Ah, that would explain a lot. For some reason I was under the impression that it's now mature and ready for use. In that case I think the new eselect module should have a message warning users, that opengl is experimental and unsupported.

The opengl graphicssystem is now marked experimental. As for the bug itself, it must be fixed upstream, either in nvidia-drivers or in Qt's graphicssystem.
