Description Frédéric Souchon 2012-01-29 09:14:53 UTC
Hello,

I have a Q6600 proc and flightgear alxwaus uses 100% of ONE core while the three others idle.
I tried to edit the /usr/share/games/flightgear/preferences.xml file to enable multithreading-mode with the AutomaticSelection option with no result.

Thx

Reproducible: Always

Actual Results:
one core at 100%
others at 0%

low FPS and the game can become unusable

I discovered something about this : the bug seems to be solved using the proprietary (erk!) nvidia driver and occurs using the "nouveau" reverse engineering module.
Comment 2 Hal Engel 2012-03-04 16:12:29 UTC
The multi-threading support that is is controlled in /usr/share/games/flightgear/preferences.xml are settings for how OSG handles multi-threading not flightgear per say. FG does some multi-threading no matter what is set in /usr/share/games/flightgear/preferences.xml but this is limted to things like background loading of scenery and aircraft. Generally these are things that don't use much CPU and teh main purpuse of this multi-threading is to prevent these things from blocking the main FG simulation loop.

Since the OSG settings are dependant on video driver OpenGL support it makes some sense that this does not work with some drivers that may not have a complete OpenGL support.

I agree with you and that confirms that the problem is in the "nouveau" driver :/ This bug can be closed. I'm sad that I have to use a proprietary driver :/
