Description Alex Barker 2012-01-20 05:26:05 UTC
New ebuild for mathematica 8.0. This has only been tested with the "Student" edition but Wolfram is quite adamant about it being exactly the same as the full version. If you have the full version please test it and report back. This ebuild may or may not work for previous releases. If you currently have version 7.0 and want to give it a try, just rename the ebuild. Again please let me know how it went. I will try and post this to an overlay if I get some useful feedback.

Reproducible: Always

Not fond of putting ebuilds for big bucks software into our tree unless they pay us or you are willing to proxy-maintain. It is difficult for us to test and maintain anyway.
See bug #100588 or bug #100584.
Comment 3 Alex Barker 2012-01-21 08:00:03 UTC
Yah I know, I was going to proxy maintain but I wanted to get a little more testing in. This took me a while to get going, figured someone could use it in the meantime.

Thank you for this ebuild Alex,
just wanted to let you know that I tried your ebuild with Mathematica 9.0.0 (I renamed the ebuild and its "SLOT"-variable.) and it's working! :)

only abnormal things are these portage warnings after installing:

Also mathematica 9 crashes with QT_GRAPHICSSYSTEM=raster, but that seems not to be a packaging problem.

I have Mathematica 9.0. It is nice to see there is an ebuild for it :-)

I did not test the ebuild yet. But I couldn't get my OpenCLLink working... It says I don't have OpenCL, but if I try to launch some OpenCL app and check whether it is present through OpenCLLink I'll get kernel panic... And yeah, it works only with native qtgraphicssystem.

This is in the tree by now.
