Probably a backward compatibility problem. The server is running libvirt-0.8.8-0.12.1 on a Suse system.
if there is a fix that can happen within virt-manager's python, its likely in 0.9.0-r2.
Actually it seems to be related to this https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=752718 But as I don't see a fix any other then using a newer server, I close this with won't fix.
