I have a Dell Latitude with a snd-hda-intel sound card. With sys-kernel/gentoo-source-3.1.6 alsa always worked right without specifing the model parameter. After upgrading to sys-kernel/gentoo-source-3.2.0-r1 I can't hear any sound. Specifing model=dell-s14 I have a full working sound system (except for the docking station headphone port), but with different channels than the one I had with older kernel versions without the model parameter.
