Description Robin Bankhead 2012-01-06 15:19:10 UTC
As I understand it Okular has not had a functional chm backend for some versions now, so the chm flag should be withdrawn until/unless this changes.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge kde-base/okular[chm]
2. okular /path/to/some.chm

Actual Results:
Error: "Can not find a plugin which is able to handle the document being passed."

Expected Results:
Okular with USE="chm" opens chm file.
Comment 1 Ian Delaney (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-01-09 15:45:23 UTC
Building okular with USE=chm;

gentoo64 okular # find /mnt/gen2/tmpdir/portage/kde-base/okular-4.7.3/work/okular-4.7.3_build -name libchmfileimpl.o
/mnt/gen2/tmpdir/portage/kde-base/okular-4.7.3/work/okular-4.7.3_build/generators/chm/CMakeFiles/okularGenerator_chmlib.dir/lib/libchmfileimpl.o

gentoo64 okular # find /mnt/gen2/tmpdir/portage/kde-base/okular-4.7.3/image/ -name okularGenerator_chmlib.so
/mnt/gen2/tmpdir/portage/kde-base/okular-4.7.3/image/usr/lib64/kde4/okularGenerator_chmlib.so

tells us we are getting the object files made when USE=chm is invoked or selected.
The flag is not doing nothing.

On acquiring the .chm document;

idella@gentoo64 ~/download $ okular php_manual_en.chm
okular(8133)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig:

okular(8133)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig:

plus many repeated lines of the libpng warning: However; it did finally load and display the document.

The output I get in the console for the same file is:

okular(15031)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig:
okular(15031)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig:
okular(15031)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig:
okular(15031)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig:
okular(15031)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig:
okular(15031)/okular (app) Okular::Document::openDocument: No plugin for mimetype '"application/octet-stream"'.
okular(15031)/kdeui (kdelibs) KXMLGUIClient::~KXMLGUIClient: 0x937a31c deleted without having been removed from the factory first. This will leak standalone popupmenus and could lead to crashes.

I did see output confirming the building of the chm plugin (though of course cmake is not very verbose); no warnings were printed, though there were some wiht the poppler, dvi and plucker plugins.

Here's my emerge --info

build log

Here's the build log for 4.8.0, where the problem still persists. Sorry for the hiatus.
